HAPPY NEW FINANCIAL YEAR to all valued Intercruit clients
If I have not had the pleasure of meeting you, my name is Clare Ivancich, Director of Intercruit. A bit of background about my Recruitment experience – my recruitment industry journey started over 20 years ago in the UK and it has been a challenging but rewarding ride. I have worked in different roles ranging from a Recruiter of chefs, social workers, Manager of a temp desk and Business Director for a Multi-National in the Banking and Finance team, all of which have given me a rich understanding of our industry.
One of the things that I love about our job is that you are continually learning. No sooner do you think you have people worked out and this recruitment game in the bag, then something happens to absolutely throw you. Twenty three years in and people still surprise me.
It’s been really interesting to enter the WONDERFUL world of Rec2Rec after being in the recruitment industry for 23 years. I have noticed many businesses that I had worked with have over time quite significantly changed their look and feel. Whether they have doubled in size, scaled back, changed structure, diversified, targeted their branding or changed their approach and offering to the market, no one company seems to stay the same. Some people I speak to are cautious of this, but I think it’s a good thing. It means that Intercruit’s clients are adaptive and respond to the market as it changes. However one thing will always remain the same, everyone will always still be looking for top talent. What businesses now deem as top talent might have changed, but everyone is still looking.
Key things I can see in companies hiring strategies:
The return of the Trainee. I am increasingly seeing this again. It means that we are building talent for the future and ensuring the sustainability of agency recruitment moving forward. I am also working with a number of companies who are growing their own consultants who are hungry for success. At Intercruit I will adapt our selection process for this market and the future ensuring that I can now effectively and confidently bench mark top potential and future talent for our clients.
Hiring on attitude. Experience is just not enough. Hiring managers have to be convinced that a Consultant has the drive to succeed in this market.
More stringent hiring processes. It is now not enough to demonstrate past wins and a desire to succeed. Consultants have to back this up with a clear plan on how they are going to move forward and progress in their job. Detailed business plans, outlining key steps in a 30/60/90 day plan, which in the past was expected of more senior candidates are now essentially part of the interview framework for all.
Leading from the front. I have not had a vacancy for a non-billing management role since I have taken over Intercruit. Leading from the front in terms of billing for a team, is a prerequisite now for every business out there. It is a competitive market and companies need their most experienced employees leading from the front demonstrating rather than talking about how it is done.
To show my commitment I am encouraging “the best of the best” talent from other B2B or sales backgrounds to join the industry. I have also been actively talent pooling/mapping experienced consultants. To that end, I would be keen to talk to you about your business needs and see how harnessing new talent can help you succeed with your business goals and growth.
